What’s in your bag?
Michael White brought a cool little device as a giveaway at the vBrisket Homelab Presentation a few weeks ago, the HooToo Tripmate Nano Travel Router. I like the thought of having a router as protection when connecting to a wireless or wired network that you know nothing about.
I looked up the device on Amazon and it is only $17.99, my first thought was how good can it be for that price? The reviews are very positive and for the price, I had to get one and see how well it works.
Here are some screen shots of the device showing the RJ45 jack and the switch that let’s you choose between wireless/wired internet. You can also plug in a USB drive and share your files to others connected to the HooToo Tripmate Nano Travel Router.
I went ahead and ordered one and started testing it out. I downloaded the HooToo TripMate App on my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and plugged in a 5V power input. I connected to the HooToo’s wireless network and changed the AP name and setup the password to connect securely.
I then connected the HooToo to a wireless network and then connected 3 devices and tested out internet connectivity successfully. I then connected an 8GB USB drive and was able to access the files and even stream a video over the router.
In conclusion, the HooToo TripMate Nano has found a permanent home in my travel backpack and a big thanks to Michael White for sharing, community style.
